Blending Hammers for PDR
Blending hammers and the art of blending has come a long way in a short time in the Paintless Dent Removal world. Blending is achieved by removing the pressure from around the dent, known as the dent ring, eyebrow or crown. This pressure can be seen on severe dents but may be hidden on smaller or more shallow damage. The pressure is there regardless if it is seen or the metal would not remain dented. A PDR tech moves his light way back and closer to the panel to magnify this pressure and relieve it by tapping their blending hammer with a special PDR Blending Tip like the most popular Knockers. A light bounce is the desired technique for blending. A quick tap-tap-tap is heard as the blending hammer tip bounces ever so gently on the pressure ring. Envision moving the molecules back towards the center of the dent. Simply feathering out the dent by hitting in front and behind it is not blending although it may make the dent much less perceptible to the untrained eye, the dent is not gone. Often, this spreading the dent out technique will leave lines behind which will jump out at different angles.
